Chandrababu Naidu’s Sensational Remarks on Telangana Land Issues Trigger Political Debate
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu made sharp and controversial remarks on land administration and disputes in Telangana, sparking political discussion. Addressing a public programme, the Chief Minister alleged that dangerous thinking had crept into politics, with attempts being made to undermine people’s land rights through flawed policies and misleading practices.
Chandrababu Naidu questioned the idea of placing leaders’ photographs on land documents, asking how ancestral land acquired through generations could carry someone else’s image. “Our forefathers earned this land. What right does anyone have to put their photo on it? Are there royal seals on boundary stones?” he asked, expressing strong displeasure. He alleged that if the alliance government had not come to power, there was a larger conspiracy to deceive people and grab their lands.
The Chief Minister was speaking at a Pattadar Passbook distribution programme held in Rayavaram village of Mandapeta constituency in East Godavari district. During the event, he personally handed over passbooks to farmers, including Kantipudi Sathya Sai Baba. Chandrababu Naidu demonstrated the new system by scanning the QR code printed on the passbook, which instantly displayed complete land details on a mobile phone. He later visited the farmland along with officials and the farmer, stating that transparent technology would eliminate fraud and confusion.
Referring to the controversial Land Titling Act brought by the previous YSRCP government, Chandrababu Naidu said he had strongly opposed it from the beginning. He alleged that the Act symbolised land ownership with political imagery and was introduced during the COVID period when people were unable to protest. “Farmers never took holidays during the pandemic, yet decisions affecting their lands were pushed through,” he said.
The Chief Minister accused the previous rulers of creating chaos in land records and warned that arrogance in governance had reached dangerous levels. He announced that the Land Titling Act had been cancelled with his second signature, reiterating that land belongs only to farmers and their families. He reminded that earlier systems such as munasab and karanala mechanisms were abolished during NTR’s regime to strengthen farmers’ rights.
Drawing a comparison, Chandrababu Naidu said Andhra Pradesh land records remain well-maintained, while Telangana continues to witness frequent land disputes. He noted that petitions related to land conflicts are rising in Telangana due to flawed systems. “Wherever land controversies exist, governance has failed,” he remarked.
To ensure transparency, the Chief Minister said Pattadar Passbooks will now be distributed through Gram Sabhas, limiting the role of Tahsildar offices. He assured that no fraud or controversy would arise under the new system, as passbooks would carry official seals and the slogan ‘Your Land, Your Right’. He further revealed that land records are being protected through resurvey methods and blockchain technology, making tampering impossible.
Explaining the technological upgrade, Chandrababu Naidu said that by scanning the QR code on the passbook, farmers can instantly access accurate land details. “This system is brought to safeguard people’s property and restore faith,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister concluded by stating that his government is committed to resolving all land disputes with the consent and confidence of the people, ensuring justice, transparency, and security for farmers.
