YSRCP Set to Win Three More Rajya Sabha Seats; Muhurat Finalized

Political equations in Andhra Pradesh are changing rapidly, with fresh calculations emerging within the ruling alliance and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). After the formation of the current alliance government, several YSRCP leaders joined other parties, but that wave of defections has now slowed. Meanwhile, opposition voices continue to claim that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy could return to power, though alliance leaders remain confident of maintaining their dominance.

In the latest development, the alliance is set to secure three Rajya Sabha seats previously held by YSRCP, and the muhurat (auspicious timing) for the process has reportedly been finalized. This will further increase the alliance’s strength in the Upper House from Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, four YSRCP Rajya Sabha members resigned after the alliance came to power. Among them, Poor Mastan Rao, Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, and others joined the TDP, while R. Krishnaiah joined the BJP. Another former YSRCP MP, V. Vijayasai Reddy, has distanced himself from active politics. As a result, YSRCP’s current strength in the Rajya Sabha has dropped to seven members. However, with three vacant seats likely to be filled soon by alliance nominees, the balance will tilt further in favor of the ruling bloc.

Meanwhile, four Rajya Sabha members from Andhra Pradesh are set to retire on June 21 this year. These include YSRCP MPs Ayodhya Rami Reddy, V. Vijayasai Reddy, and Subhash Chandra Bose, along with TDP’s Sana Satish. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat has already released the official retirement bulletin.

There is uncertainty over whether TDP’s Sana Satish will receive another term, while YSRCP is expected to retain only limited representation after the upcoming changes. Sources indicate that out of the four upcoming vacancies, two seats may go to TDP, while BJP and Jana Sena are likely to get one seat each as part of alliance seat-sharing arrangements.

Interestingly, Jana Sena is reportedly considering fielding a popular film personality or a noted industrial expert for its Rajya Sabha nomination, adding further buzz to the political scene.

With these developments, YSRCP’s representation in the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh is expected to come down to just four MPs by June, marking a significant shift in the state’s political balance.
