OTT: Freedom at Midnight Season 2 Now Streaming on Sony LIV
Freedom at Midnight made its OTT debut with the first season as a serious and ambitious portrayal of India’s Independence and Partition, adapted from the acclaimed book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins. While the response was mixed, the series earned appreciation for its intent, performances, and scale. However, its slow pacing and dense narrative limited its appeal largely to a niche audience.
Now, Season 2 of Freedom at Midnight is streaming on Sony LIV, taking the story beyond August 1947. The new season shifts focus to the turbulent aftermath of Independence, highlighting the violence, mass refugee movement, and the immense political pressure of governing a newly formed nation. Rather than treating freedom as an end point, the series presents it as a beginning, examining the heavy costs that followed the country’s division. In addition to Hindi, the series is also available in Telugu and other languages.
Created and directed by Nikkhil Advani, the series is produced by Emmay Entertainment in association with StudioNext. The ensemble cast features Sidhant Gupta as Jawaharlal Nehru, Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi, and Arif Zakaria as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, along with Ira Dubey, Rajendra Chawla, KC Shankar, and Rajesh Kumar in prominent roles. With a darker tone and a sharper political focus, Season 2 aims to build on the foundation of the first season and deliver a more impactful viewing experience.
