100 Days of NDA Rule in Andhra Pradesh
This Friday marks 100 days since the NDA rule took charge in Andhra Pradesh after a landmark victory in the 2024 elections. The coalition, led by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janasena, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured 164 out of 175 seats in the assembly. Chandrababu Naidu, taking the reins as Chief Minister on June 12th, began his term with key promises aimed at restoring the state’s progress. Notably, Pawan Kalyan from Janasena was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister.
In NDA Rule Major Decisions Implemented
Naidu wasted no time in delivering on key promises. Immediately after assuming office, he signed five crucial files, dubbed the “Fifer,” fulfilling significant commitments made during the campaign:
- Teacher Recruitment via Mega DSC – Addressing the teacher shortage by initiating a large-scale recruitment drive.
- Skill Census – Aimed at creating employment opportunities and boosting the workforce.
- Land Titling Act Repeal – The controversial act was scrapped to restore land ownership rights.
- Pension Increase – Raised pensions from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000, which was credited on July 1st.
- Reopening of Anna Canteens – Providing affordable meals to the underprivileged, with more canteens planned.
Financial Support from the Center
Naidu’s administration received a significant boost from the central government in the form of financial aid for the Polavaram Project and the construction of the Amaravati Capital. These projects are crucial for Andhra Pradesh’s infrastructure development and are seen as a major win for the NDA in these first 100 days.
Public Approval, But Cadre Discontent
While the government has managed to win over the public with these actions, the cadre from the TDP and Janasena seem less satisfied. Many party workers expected more decisive action against political rivals, particularly those from the previous YSRCP government. This has led to growing frustration among the party ranks.
Major Challenges Faced by NDA Rule
The government faced unexpected challenges early on. Severe floods in Vijayawada tested Naidu’s leadership. Despite the crisis, his administration managed the situation efficiently, quelling criticisms from the opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). Additionally, issues like the Gudlavalleru Engineering College’s hidden camera incident and food poisoning cases have proven to be significant headaches.
New Policies Introduced
The government has also introduced major policies that have drawn mixed responses:
- New Sand Policy – Aimed at regulating the sand supply, it has seen pushback due to alleged irregularities.
- Liquor Policy – Set to take effect from October 1st, all eyes are on how it will influence the state’s revenue and social structure over the next five years.
The Road Ahead
It’s clear that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has made progress, satisfying a significant portion of the population. However, the dissatisfaction among the party cadre indicates that more decisive action is needed to fully win over both the public and internal supporters.
