Former ZP Chairman Kamal Raju Detained During Gurukul Bata Programme in Khammam
In a heated incident in Khammam district, former ZP chairman and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Lingala Kamal Raju, along with a group of party members, was detained by police while attempting to inspect a residential school.
The visit was part of the Gurukul Bata programme, a State-wide initiative aimed at assessing the conditions in residential schools. The BRS leaders alleged poor facilities and accused the Congress government of negligence toward students’ welfare.
Police Intervention at Yerrupalem Gurukul
The incident unfolded at a Gurukul in Yerrupalem when BRS leaders, led by Kamal Raju, tried to enter the school premises to inspect the conditions. The police, citing restrictions, prevented them from proceeding further and detained the group. The leaders were taken to the local police station, leading to widespread protests across the district.
BRS activists raised slogans condemning the Congress government and accused it of obstructing democracy.
Allegations of Neglect Under Congress Rule
Speaking to the media, Kamal Raju criticized the Congress government, alleging a significant decline in the standards of Gurukuls under its administration.
- He pointed to frequent food poisoning incidents caused by substandard meals being served to students.
- He also accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and his cabinet of ignoring critical issues related to students’ well-being.
“These actions represent the murder of democracy,” Kamal Raju said, demanding immediate intervention to address the deteriorating conditions in residential schools.
Protests Across Khammam
The arrest of Kamal Raju sparked protests at various locations in Khammam. BRS activists also protested the detention of senior leaders, including former ministers T. Harish Rao, G. Jagadish Reddy, and MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy, demanding their immediate release.
Demonstrators condemned the alleged high-handedness of the Congress government and urged it to focus on resolving the critical issues plaguing the Gurukul system.
A Call for Action on ZP Chairman
The Gurukul Bata programme highlights an urgent need to address the conditions of residential schools in the State. While political clashes dominate the narrative, the well-being of students remains the core issue. The incident has intensified the debate around accountability and governance under the current Congress regime.
