Among the key questions, one that stood out was about the potential threat Amaravati might pose to Hyderabad’s established position in the IT sector. This inquiry aimed to gauge KTR’s opinion, especially considering Andhra Pradesh’s former Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, and his plans to develop Amaravati as a prominent IT hub with strong support from the NDA government.
KTR’s Response on Amaravati as a Rival to Hyderabad
Responding to the question about Amaravati’s potential, KTR acknowledged Chandrababu Naidu’s ambition and dedication to developing the city, recognizing Naidu’s impact on Andhra Pradesh’s economic landscape. He emphasized, however, that Hyderabad is in “an orbit of its own,” setting it apart even from other Tier-I cities. Telangana’s investment policies, such as the TS-iPASS industrial policy and significant partnerships with leading global tech companies, have given Hyderabad a lasting competitive edge in the IT landscape.
Concerns About Congress in Telangana and IT Sector Uncertainty
KTR shared a candid view on his concerns for Hyderabad’s future if Congress were to assume leadership in Telangana. “Not sure what’s ahead with Congress in Telangana,” KTR remarked, expressing a cautious outlook on the IT sector’s growth under a Congress-led government. This comment points to his belief that BRS has uniquely fostered Hyderabad’s growth and that a change in governance could impact the momentum established by the current administration.
The Relationship with TDP and YSRCP: KTR’s Perspective
In the same session, KTR addressed questions about Telangana’s BRS party’s stance with Andhra Pradesh’s major political parties, TDP and YSRCP. When asked if BRS would align with either party ideologically, KTR clarified that while BRS maintains friendly personal relationships with the leadership of both TDP and YSRCP, they also hold different stances on political matters when required. He assured that the relationships were professional and pragmatic, stating, “We might differ on issues, but there’s nothing personal against anyone per se.”
