Warangal Mamnoor Airport Gets Green Signal, Set to Open Soon

Warangal to Get Its Second Airport

In a major boost to regional connectivity, the central government has approved the development of Mamnoor Airport in Warangal, making it Telangana’s second operational airport.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu emphasized the strategic importance of this project:

🗣️ “Warangal has immense potential to become a major regional hub. We are committed to ensuring this project moves swiftly, bringing new opportunities for trade, tourism, and local employment.”

Land Acquisition & Infrastructure Plans

To facilitate the airport’s development, the Telangana government has allocated ₹205 crore for acquiring 280.30 acres of land.

📌 Existing Land Holdings:
✔ Mamnoor Airport already has 696 acres of land.
✔ The expansion will enable it to accommodate Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

Overcoming Regulatory Hurdles

For years, the development of Warangal Airport was stalled due to GMR Group’s clause, which restricted the establishment of another airport within 150 km of Hyderabad for 25 years.

Resolution:
State R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy successfully negotiated with GMR Group to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the second airport.

Historic Significance of Mamnoor Airstrip

The Mamnoor airstrip holds historical importance:
📌 Operational during Nizam’s rule.
📌 Used during the Indo-China war.

With its revival, Mamnoor Airport expected to enhance Warangal’s growth potential in aviation, trade, and tourism.
