In a concerning series of events, two Visakhapatnam-bound IndiGo flights received bomb threats on Tuesday, just a day after a similar hoax threat was issued against an IndiGo flight on the Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam-Mumbai route. The threats caused immediate security measures, with flights from Chennai (6E917) and Bengaluru (6E969) affected, sparking unease among passengers and triggering a prompt response from the airline and airport security.

Security Alert on Social Media and Quick Response

The threat was initially flagged on social media when the regional security head for the airline noticed a post on X (formerly Twitter), made by a user with the handle ‘AdamLanza202.’ The post, which went live at 5:36 pm, warned of explosives on board these specific Vizag-bound flights. The Station Manager was immediately alerted, setting into motion a series of safety protocols.

Despite the warning, both flights had already departed for Visakhapatnam by the time the threat was recognized. The Chennai-Visakhapatnam flight had left at 4:39 pm, while the Bengaluru-Visakhapatnam flight departed slightly earlier at 4:12 pm. After being made aware of the threat, IndiGo and Visakhapatnam International Airport teams moved both aircraft to an isolated bay upon landing, where they underwent intensive security checks.

Thorough Security Inspections at Visakhapatnam International Airport

As per standard operating procedures in such situations, each aircraft underwent rigorous checks by security teams. According to Airport Director Raja Reddy, the team followed stringent protocols to ensure passenger safety, meticulously inspecting the interiors and luggage compartments of both flights for any suspicious items. After an exhaustive search, no suspicious objects or materials were found, and the flights were cleared for further operations.

Indigo Flights Delays and Impact on Return Flights

Following the clearance, both aircraft resumed operations, departing back to their original locations. The Chennai-bound flight faced a delay of 2 hours and 10 minutes, finally departing from Visakhapatnam at 5:50 pm. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru-bound flight, delayed by 1 hour and 35 minutes, took off at 6:25 pm. The delays impacted several passengers who were onboard as well as those waiting for return flights, causing a ripple effect in scheduling.
