Telangana Launches Bhu Bharati to Replace Dharani Portal
A New Era in Land Management for Telangana
In a major administrative overhaul, the Telangana government has officially launched the Telangana Bhu Bharati (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2024. With this, the controversial Dharani portal is now being replaced by a more transparent and accessible platform — Bhu Bharati. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy inaugurated the Bhu Bharati portal, marking a significant milestone in modernizing land record management in the state.
Why Replace Dharani?
The previous system, Dharani, faced heavy criticism from various sections of society. Complaints ranged from a lack of transparency to poor user experience and alleged discrepancies in land ownership data. Recognizing the need for a more future-ready and people-centric solution, CM Revanth Reddy directed officials to develop a portal that could remain reliable for the next 100 years.
Cybersecurity Is a Top Priority
Acknowledging the increasing threat of cyberattacks, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of data protection. He ordered officials to implement robust cybersecurity measures, including high-level firewalls. Additionally, the portal’s maintenance will be handed over to a reputed organization to ensure safety and long-term reliability.
Phased Rollout of Bhu Bharati
Initially, Bhu Bharati will be launched in four pilot mandals:
- Thirumalagiri (Nalgonda)
- Sadasivapet (Medak)
- Keesara (Rangareddy)
- One unnamed mandal in Khammam district
The goal is to achieve statewide implementation by Telangana Formation Day on June 2, 2024.
What Services Will Bhu Bharati Offer?
The Bhu Bharati portal will offer a comprehensive suite of land-related services, such as:
- Land registration and mutation
- Appeals and revisions
- Record of Rights (ROR) corrections
- Conversion of agricultural to non-agricultural land
- e-Challan generation
- Access to encumbrance certificates
- Market value estimation
- Viewing registered documents
- Identification of prohibited lands
A Step Toward Digital Transformation
With This Scheme, the Telangana government aims to simplify land transactions and make land records more accessible and trustworthy. If executed effectively, the portal could become a model for other states looking to digitize their land records and improve governance.
