TDP Exposes YS Jagan: 10 Out of 11 Projects Renamed

TDP Reveals YS Jagan’s Project Renaming Strategy

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) is keeping the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders on edge by unveiling how former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy allegedly indulged in political favoritism during his tenure.TDP supporters have recently brought to light that Jagan renamed 11 existing irrigation projects and schemes, predominantly after his father, former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and other Reddy community leaders. This revelation has sparked widespread criticism and political debates across Andhra Pradesh.

Major Irrigation Projects Renamed Under YS Jagan’s Rule

As per TDP’s claims, YS Jagan systematically altered project names, favoring his political legacy. The key changes include:

  • Godavari-Penna Rivers Interlinking Phase-1 → Renamed as YSR Palnadu Drought Mitigation Project (YSRCP DMP)
  • Mukyala Lift Irrigation Scheme → Renamed as YSR Vedadri Lift Irrigation Scheme
  • Veligallu Reservoir → Renamed as YSR Veligallu Balancing Reservoir
  • Sarvaraya Sagar Reservoir → Renamed as Narredy Siva Rami Reddy Reservoir
  • Nellore Barrage → Renamed as Nallapureddy Srinivasareddy Nellore Barrage
  • Sangam Barrage → Renamed as Mekapati Gautham Reddy Sangam Barrage
  • Thatipudi Reservoir → Renamed as Gorrepati Butchi Apparao Reservoir
  • Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Scheme → Renamed as Anantha Venkata Reddy Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi
  • Paritala Ravindra Lift Irrigation Project → Renamed as YSR Upper Pennar Project
  • Mogaligundala Mini Reservoir → Renamed as Butchapalli Subbareddy Mini Reservoir
  • Raketla Amidyala Lift Irrigation Scheme → Renamed as Raketla Narayana Reddy Lift Irrigation Scheme

TDP Cadre Trolls YSRCP Over Political Favoritism

TDP has slammed Jagan’s governance for renaming four projects after his father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, and six more projects after prominent Reddy community leaders. This move is being heavily criticized on social media, with opposition supporters labeling it as an attempt to erase previous governments’ contributions and promote one family’s political identity.

Chandrababu Government Restores Original Projects Names

Following the 2024 general election victory, Chandrababu Naidu’s alliance government swiftly took action against these renaming decisions. In August 2024, the new government issued a Government Order (G.O.), officially reverting the project names to their original titles. These changes were later published in the state gazette, marking the end of YSRCP’s branding on irrigation projects.

Political Backlash & Public Reactions

The renaming controversy has stirred strong political reactions, with TDP accusing YSRCP of blatant nepotism. The move has also fueled debates about political name changes in public infrastructure, questioning whether projects should be named after leaders or remain neutral for public benefit.

What Lies Ahead?

With Chandrababu Naidu’s government firmly reversing YSRCP’s decisions, the political war of words continues between the ruling party and the opposition. The larger question remains—will this practice of renaming public projects for political mileage continue in Andhra Pradesh’s governance?
