“No Curfew, Just Precaution”: Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand

Hyderabad Under Section 144: What It Means for Citizens Not Curfew

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand recently issued a directive to enforce Section 144 across Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad for a month. This law restricts large public gatherings, including rallies, protests, and any form of congregation, unless permitted by the police. While some citizens expressed concern, fearing restrictions on movement, Commissioner Anand clarified that this isn’t a curfew but a precautionary measure for maintaining law and order.

Why Section 144 Now? The Police Commissioner’s Stance

In response to rising concerns, CV Anand explained the purpose of this directive. He emphasized that it was not tied to Diwali celebrations and assured citizens that regular life will not be affected. “This notification is unrelated to the festival celebrations. Some groups are planning different types of agitations and unauthorized gatherings at key sites, including the state secretariat and CM’s residence. Intelligence reports indicate potential disruptions. This directive simply empowers all police stations to act if situations become uncontrollable,” Anand posted on X.

He further stressed that such orders are routine and serve as a legal backing for swift police action if needed. “This is not a curfew, as some claim. So relax,” Anand added, aiming to allay public fears.

Rising Unrest Among Telangana Special Police: A Key Factor

This enforcement comes amid unrest within the Telangana Special Police and their families, who are pressing for a unified policing system. Protests have erupted outside the state secretariat, pushing for disciplinary fairness. Recently, 49 officers faced punitive measures, including 39 suspensions and ten dismissals, fueling dissatisfaction within the ranks.

Ongoing Controversies Adding to Public Concerns

Adding to the current tensions is a separate issue involving the BRS party. Authorities discovered large quantities of foreign liquor at a farmhouse owned by relatives of a BRS leader. This find has sparked allegations of bias within the government, with some questioning the timing and motives behind these enforcements.

Police Assurance for Public Safety and Security

By implementing Section 144, Commissioner Anand aims to ensure the city’s safety, particularly with intelligence suggesting more unrest. For now, the directive remains focused on keeping peace and order across Hyderabad without impacting day-to-day activities. The Hyderabad Police assures citizens that this directive only empowers police to act swiftly in case of unexpected disturbances.

A Call for Calm: No Need for Panic its Not Curfew

CV Anand’s latest communication encourages the public to stay calm and go about their regular activities. While heightened police presence may be noticed around key locations, the focus is strictly on maintaining order amidst the volatile political and social climate.

By staying informed and cooperating with the police, Hyderabad residents can help maintain the city’s peace and harmony in these challenging times.
