Nara Lokesh’s Vision: Three Knowledge Cities in Andhra Pradesh

Nara Lokesh, the Education and IT Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has unveiled an ambitious plan to establish three Knowledge Cities across the state—in Amaravati, Visakhapatnam, and Tirupati. This strategic initiative aims to foster education, innovation, and regional development while positioning Andhra Pradesh as a knowledge-driven hub.

Strategically Located Knowledge Cities

The locations of these Knowledge Cities have been carefully chosen to ensure balanced growth across all regions:

  • Amaravati: Serving as a central hub in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Visakhapatnam: Positioned as the educational and tech hub of North Andhra.
  • Tirupati: Already a prominent educational center in Rayalaseema, the addition of a Knowledge City will further enhance its status as a Knowledge Hub.

Tirupati, home to several renowned universities, will see a significant boost with the proposed Knowledge City. Similarly, Amaravati and Visakhapatnam, with institutions like AIIMS, KLU, and Andhra University, will cement their reputation as leading educational centers.

Major Developments Under Swarnandhra – 2047 Goals

Speaking at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Lokesh announced plans for:

  • Establishing an AI University and a National Centre for AI.
  • Developing five world-class multidisciplinary universities focused on education and research.
These initiatives align with the Swarnandhra – 2047 vision to propel Andhra Pradesh into a leading position globally.

Lokesh highlighted the state’s use of AI for optimizing power purchase costs and improving grid management. This forward-thinking approach underscores his dedication to leveraging technology for sustainable development.

Transforming Visakhapatnam Into a Tech Hub

Lokesh, along with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is working tirelessly to develop Visakhapatnam as an AI and technology hub. While in Davos, Lokesh sought investments to advance the IT and pharma sectors in the region. He proposed a Regional Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub at Visakhapatnam airport, alongside plans for an international airport within the CRDA limits, covering 3,000-5,000 acres.

Collaborative Efforts with Industry Leaders

During his Davos visit, Lokesh held meetings with global leaders:

  • Air India CEO Campbell Wilson: Discussed developing the aviation sector, including MRO facilities.
  • Rishad Premji, Wipro Executive Chairman: Highlighted IT developments in Andhra Pradesh, with Wipro planning to invest ₹8,000 crores under its GE Healthcare Division in the next five years.
  • Bharat Kaushal, MD of Hitachi India: Proposed implementing advanced High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems for efficient power transmission. Kaushal announced plans for multi-skill development centers in Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Kakinada in partnership with Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning India Ltd.

Conclusion

Nara Lokesh’s vision for Knowledge Cities and collaborative efforts with global industry leaders underline his commitment to transforming Andhra Pradesh into an educational and technological powerhouse. With strategic plans and ambitious initiatives, Lokesh is paving the way for a brighter future for the state.
