Nara Lokesh Invites IT Firms to Andhra Pradesh Amid Karnataka Quota Controversy

Amidst a massive backlash over the Karnataka government’s decision to reserve jobs for locals, Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh has extended a warm invitation to IT companies to relocate their businesses to Andhra Pradesh. The decision by Karnataka has sparked significant dissatisfaction among IT firms, and Lokesh’s timely outreach offers a promising alternative.

A Welcome Invitation

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Nara Lokesh, the state IT minister and TDP MLA, addressed the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom). He expressed his understanding of their dissatisfaction with Karnataka’s new quota decision and assured them of the best facilities in Andhra Pradesh. Lokesh stated, “We will offer you best-in-class facilities, uninterrupted power, infrastructure, and the most suitable skilled talent for your IT enterprise with no restrictions from the Government.”

Nasscom’s Displeasure

Nasscom had earlier voiced its disappointment and profound concern over the Karnataka State Government Employment of Local Candidates in Industries Bill, 2024. The bill, which mandates 100% reservation for Kannadigas in C and D grade posts within private enterprises, was met with disapproval from the industry group. Nasscom emphasized that such a bill could negatively impact employment, the state’s reputation abroad, and the industry’s ability to grow. They urged the Karnataka state government to withdraw the bill, seeking an urgent meeting with state authorities to discuss their concerns.

Andhra Pradesh: A Promising Alternative

Lokesh’s invitation to Nasscom members highlights the advantages of relocating to Andhra Pradesh. He emphasized that Andhra Pradesh offers excellent facilities, consistent power supply, robust infrastructure, and a pool of skilled talent. Specifically, he mentioned the IT, IT services, AI, and data center cluster in Vizag as an ideal location for these firms to grow or move their operations.

Lokesh’s Statement on Social Media

Lokesh’s statement on social media was clear and direct, appealing to the IT firms affected by the Karnataka decision: “Dear Members of @NASSCOM, we recognize your displeasure. We invite you to grow or move your companies to our IT, IT services, AI, and data center cluster at Vizag.”

Karnataka’s Decision and Its Impact

The controversy began when the Karnataka state government approved a bill recommending 100% reservation for locals in certain private sector jobs. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah publicized this decision on social media, which was later removed following fierce criticism from IT companies. The backlash highlights the significant concerns within the industry regarding such legislative measures and their potential impact on business operations and growth.

Conclusion

Nara Lokesh’s proactive approach in inviting IT firms to Andhra Pradesh during a contentious period for Karnataka’s IT industry underscores his commitment to providing a conducive environment for businesses. With promises of top-notch facilities and a skilled workforce, Andhra Pradesh presents itself as a viable and attractive alternative for IT companies looking for stability and growth.
