Naidu Plans to Reintroduce Volunteers into TDP Government

With the transition of power to the TDP coalition in Andhra Pradesh, the role of volunteers, who were prominent during the YCP government, has seemingly faded. However, recent developments indicate that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is preparing to reinstate their importance. The TDP government is planning to reintroduce these volunteers to play a pivotal role in administration, community welfare, and more.

The Role of Volunteers Under the YCP Government

During the previous YCP rule, former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy appointed around 2.3 lakh volunteers across Andhra Pradesh. Each volunteer was responsible for bridging the gap between the government and beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. They received a monthly honorarium of Rs 5,000 for their services, and their work was mostly appreciated across the state, despite some isolated cases of issues.

Naidu Strategic Announcement to Retain Volunteers

Before the Assembly elections, TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu strategically announced that his government would continue to utilize the services of these volunteers. He even promised to increase their honorarium from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. This move was seen as a way to maintain continuity in welfare programs and strengthen the connection between the government and the people. However, after 70 days in power, the TDP coalition had yet to reintegrate these volunteers into their administration.

Naidu wants Volunteers to Resume Duties Soon

Recent reports indicate that the TDP government has decided to actively engage the volunteers once again. This decision comes after questions were raised about their absence by MLCs. The minister responsible for this department had earlier claimed ignorance about the volunteers’ status.

Expanding the Scope of Volunteers’ Responsibilities

Apart from their usual duties, each volunteer will now be responsible for overseeing the welfare of 100 families, double the number assigned during the YCP rule. This expanded scope of responsibilities signifies the government’s intent to integrate volunteers into more significant roles in the community. In addition to their previous roles, volunteers will also help in village and ward secretariats, ensuring that their contributions are not sidelined or forgotten.

Future Role of Volunteers in TDP Government

The reintroduction of volunteers highlights N. Chandrababu Naidu’s focus on grassroots governance and community welfare. By reinstating these volunteers, the TDP government aims to ensure that welfare programs reach every corner of the state, while also strengthening their administration.
