Mithun Reddy Seeks Bail as SIT Intensifies Liquor Scam Probe
Mithun Reddy Seeks Anticipatory Bail
Rajampet MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy, son of former minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, has moved the High Court for anticipatory bail. He claims that the government falsely implicated him in the liquor scam and that the media misrepresented his name.
In his defense, he states that as an MP, he had no role in the state government’s policies. However, the investigation team alleges that he influenced key liquor policy decisions during the YSR Congress rule. Fearing possible arrest, he seeks legal protection.
Liquor Scam: The SIT Investigation Intensifies
The YSR Congress government had established state-run liquor stores to control alcohol sales. The current government, however, accused them of promoting local liquor brands at the expense of well-known ones, raising concerns about public health risks.
To probe this issue, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The team must submit a comprehensive report within three months and take action against those responsible.
Mithun Reddy Alleged Involvement
Reports suggest that distilleries linked to Mithun Reddy’s family sold low-quality liquor at inflated prices through government channels.
Key findings from the investigation include:
Peddireddy family’s distilleries played a role in the scam.
The police FIR named Mithun Reddy among other suspects.
Excise Deputy Commissioner Sathya Prasad mentioned him in his statement.
Certain distilleries gained special privileges, while others faced restrictions during YCP’s rule.
These allegations suggest that political influence may have shaped the liquor industry’s policies during the previous administration.
Court Hearing Still Pending
On Monday evening, Mithun Reddy urgently filed his bail petition, denying any involvement in the scam. However, since the court session had ended, the hearing remains uncertain.
As the SIT tightens its investigation, the court’s decision on Mithun Reddy’s bail plea could have significant implications. The case is now under close watch, with more legal developments expected soon.
