Mithun Reddy From High Court: “Afraid of Assault?”
Liquor Scam Probe: MP Mithun Reddy Seeks Interrogation Recordings
The ongoing liquor scam investigation, which allegedly took place during the YSRCP government’s rule, continues to stir controversy. As part of the inquiry, YSRCP MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy is under scrutiny. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), overseen by Vijayawada Police Commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, is handling the high-profile probe.
A few weeks ago, SIT officials issued formal notices to Mithun Reddy. In response, the MP moved the Supreme Court and secured interim protection from arrest. However, his attempt to obtain anticipatory bail was denied by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, prompting him to seek further legal relief.
MP Mithun Reddy Requests Interrogation Recordings — Court Questions Intent
Ahead of his scheduled appearance before the SIT on Friday, Mithun Reddy filed a fresh petition in the High Court. His request? To allow audio and video recordings during the interrogation session.
The High Court’s response was blunt and unexpected. “Are you afraid of being beaten by officials? Why do you need recordings?” asked the judge, sparking discussion in legal and political circles.
Lawyers to Join, But No Personal Recordings
The Court ultimately denied permission for personal recording devices, citing the existing CCTV infrastructure in the SIT interrogation rooms. However, in a partial relief, it granted Mithun Reddy the right to be accompanied by two lawyers during the interrogation.
In addition, the Court issued a directive to the authorities: Ensure all CCTV systems are fully functional before the session. It warned police not to later claim technical glitches to avoid accountability.
Legal Team Responds Calmly
Mithun Reddy’s lawyers clarified that they did not suspect any physical abuse. They explained the recording request was simply for the sake of documentation and future legal reference.
Conclusion: Pressure Mounts on Both Sides
As pressure builds around the liquor scam case, the latest courtroom exchange has added a new dimension. With the Court maintaining a firm stance and the MP standing his ground, all eyes are now on Friday’s interrogation. The legal and political fallout may just be getting started.
