KTR Named in Formula E Scandal with 4 Non-Bailable Sections

KTR Implicated in Formula E Scandal: Key Details

In a significant political development, Telangana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has officially registered a case in connection with the Formula E scandal. This controversy involves former IT Minister and current BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) as the main accused.

Charges Filed Against KTR in Formula E Scandal case

KTR has been named A1 in the case, with IAS officer Arvind Kumar as A2 and former HMDA Chief Engineer BLN Reddy as A3. The ACB has filed charges under the following non-bailable sections:

  • Sections 13(1)(A) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act
  • Sections 409 and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)

These sections highlight allegations of corruption, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy, indicating serious legal trouble for KTR.

Allegations and Accusations

The case revolves around an alleged misuse of ₹45 crore in government funds, reportedly paid by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to the foreign company Formula E Operations (FEO). This transaction allegedly violated Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines and lacked cabinet or Finance Department approval.

KTR accused of verbally approving this transaction, thereby directing the illicit payment. The implicated IAS officer and former HMDA Chief Engineer are also under scrutiny for their roles in the alleged misconduct.

KTR Responds to Allegations

As media reports speculate on the possibility of KTR facing imprisonment, he has issued a statement denying the allegations. KTR claims he is being wrongfully accused and is prepared to go to jail if Chief Minister Revanth Reddy insists on framing him for a crime he did not commit.

Political and Legal Ramifications

This scandal has put the spotlight on the political landscape of Telangana. The Congress government, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has intensified its investigation into the case, signaling a tough stance on corruption.

The Formula E scandal, involving alleged misuse of public funds, has already raised questions about transparency and accountability in governance.
