KTR Criticizes Congress for Disrespecting Ambedkar
KTR Accuses Congress of Undermining Ambedkar Legacy
Hyderabad: On the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s death anniversary, BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) sharply criticized the Congress-led Telangana government for neglecting Ambedkar’s legacy. Speaking at Telangana Bhavan, after paying tributes to Ambedkar’s portrait, KTR highlighted the Congress’ failure to honor Ambedkar and its neglect of Dalit welfare programs.
KTR pointed out that the Congress government had abandoned the world’s tallest 125-foot Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund, restricting public access to the site. “The Congress didn’t even bother to clean or garland the statue. When we planned to visit the memorial to clean it ourselves, our leaders were placed under house arrest,” KTR remarked.
BRS’ Commitment to Honoring Ambedkar
He emphasized the efforts of the previous BRS government in commemorating Ambedkar’s contributions. These included installing the tallest Ambedkar statue globally and naming the State Secretariat after him.
KTR criticized Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for disrespecting Ambedkar’s ideology by locking the statue’s premises. He also accused the Congress of historically undermining Ambedkar, both during his lifetime and after his death.
Congress Fails Dalit Welfare
KTR accused the Congress of failing Dalit welfare initiatives. He highlighted the cancellation of cheques issued under the Dalit Bandhu scheme and the suspension of Ambedkar Overseas Scholarships. Additionally, he pointed out that Dalit Bandhu beneficiaries were facing legal cases for seeking funds.
“This government’s actions against Dalits expose its neglect and disregard for social justice,” KTR said.
Rahul Gandhi’s Silence and Telangana Thalli Controversy
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, KTR called out his silence on what he termed the “unconstitutional actions” of his party in Telangana. “Rahul Gandhi talks about safeguarding the Constitution but ignores the undemocratic actions of his party here,” KTR stated.
KTR also criticized the redesign of the Telangana Thalli statue, accusing the Congress of attempting to erase the state’s cultural identity. He called it an insult to the aspirations of the Telangana statehood movement.
“Telangana Thalli was created after consultations with poets, artists, and intellectuals. Revanth Reddy’s redesign reflects narrow-mindedness. When the BRS returns to power, we will reinstall the statue at its rightful place,” he vowed.
A Call for Action
KTR demanded a month-long Assembly session to address critical issues, including agricultural distress, farmer suicides, and the state of government schools.
“We will not remain silent; we will fight for the people of Telangana,” he declared.
In a stern warning to Revanth Reddy, KTR said, “Respect is mutual. If he stops his abusive rhetoric against our leader Chandrashekhar Rao, we will respect him and his position. Otherwise, we will respond in equal measure.”
