The victim was discovered partially clothed in a seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College. The autopsy report confirmed signs of sexual assault before her murder, which occurred between 3 am and 6 am. The civic volunteer, who had access to various departments of the hospital, allegedly committed the crime after consuming alcohol.

On the night of the incident, the doctor had communicated with her parents around 11 pm and had a late dinner at 2 am. She was found dead in the seminar hall, where she had gone to study and rest. Her body showed signs of strangulation and smothering, with a broken neck bone.

Political leaders have condemned the incident, and accusations of scapegoating have emerged. CPI(M) leader Dipsita Dhar criticized the arrest of the civic volunteer as a superficial measure.

In response to the tragedy, the Resident Doctors’ Association at AIIMS organized a candle march from JLN stadium to AIIMS to honor the deceased doctor. Cricketer Sourav Ganguly also voiced his condemnation of the horrific act.
