Jagan Mohan Reddy Travels Commercial for the First Time in 5 Years
After taking office as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in 2019, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy avoided commercial flights, opting instead for special flights provided by the state. This marked a stark contrast to his usual travel routine over the last five years.
For the first time since becoming CM, Jagan Mohan Reddy boarded a commercial flight after his party lost power in the recent elections. Yesterday morning, he traveled from Bengaluru to Gannavaram on an Indigo flight, mingling with everyday passengers. This significant change highlights the shift in his status from Chief Minister to a regular MLA without the privileges that come with the higher office.
Throughout his tenure as Chief Minister, the state exchequer covered Jagan’s travel expenses, enabling him to use special flights exclusively. However, now that he no longer holds the position, those privileges have been revoked. As a result, Jagan is expected to fly commercially more often, sharing the experience with the general public.
This transition is not just a matter of losing privileges but also a more economical choice, as special flights can cost lakhs of rupees. Observers note that there is nothing wrong with this change; in fact, it aligns him more closely with the common people he represents.
As Jagan adjusts to his new role and the accompanying changes, his recent commercial flight is a symbolic reminder of the ebb and flow of political power and the practical realities that come with it.
