Hyderabad to Get New International Cricket Stadium
New Cricket Stadium Coming to Hyderabad
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced the construction of a new international cricket stadium in Hyderabad. This new stadium will rise at Begarikancha on the city’s outskirts, where the foundation for Young India Skills University was recently laid. This project aims to enhance the city’s capabilities for hosting major cricket events.
Discussions with BCCI and Future Plans
The Chief Minister has already discussed the stadium plans with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). These initial talks are part of a broader effort by the state to upgrade its sports infrastructure and provide top-notch venues for international cricket.
Government’s Commitment to Sports Promotion
Revanth Reddy assured that the state government is committed to boosting sports across Telangana. The government plans to announce a new sports policy soon. Currently, officials are reviewing Haryana’s sports policy to guide their approach. This policy will outline the steps to improve sports facilities and opportunities in the state.
Budget Allocation for Sports In Hyderabad
For the fiscal year 2024-25, Telangana has allocated Rs 321 crore specifically for sports. The upcoming sports policy will be presented during the next Assembly session. The Chief Minister has invited opposition parties to offer their suggestions for enhancing sports in the state.
Upgrading Existing Sports Infrastructure In Hyderabad
The Chief Minister highlighted the need for new sports infrastructure due to declining usage at existing venues like Yousufguda, Gachibowli, Saroornagar, and LB Stadium. The LB Stadium, in particular, has increasingly been used for political events rather than sports activities.
Incentives for Prominent Sportspersons
To recognize outstanding achievements, the state cabinet has decided to allocate 600 square yards of house sites each to shooter Esha Singh, two-time world boxing champion Nikhat Zareen, and international cricketer Mohammed Siraj. Additionally, Zareen and Siraj will receive Group-1 job positions.
Special Exemption for Mohammed Siraj
Although Siraj does not meet the educational qualification for a Group-I job—requiring a degree while he has only completed intermediate education—the cabinet has granted him an exemption. This decision aims to support and motivate talented sportspersons. Siraj’s Group-I position could potentially lead to high-ranking roles, such as Deputy Superintendent of Police, if he chooses to join the police force.
