Former Andhra Minister Perni Nani Booked in PDS Rice Scam

Former Andhra Pradesh Minister Perni Venkataramaih, also known as Perni Nani, has been booked in a case linked to the alleged diversion of Public Distribution System PDS rice scam. The Bandar Taluka Police Station in Krishna district has now added Nani as the sixth accused in the investigation.

Missing PDS Rice and Arrests in the Case

This case revolves around missing PDS rice from a warehouse owned by Nani’s wife, Jayasudha. The warehouse in Potlapalem village, which Jayasudha registered in her name, rented to the Civil Supplies Department for storage purposes. A recent inspection uncovered that 7,577 bags of rice were missing.

An official from the Civil Supplies Department filed a complaint with the police, highlighting the missing 248 tonnes of ration rice. Despite summons being issued to Jayasudha, Nani, and their son Krishna Murthy, they failed to appear. Following Jayasudha’s anticipatory bail from a local court, the police arrested four others involved.

Individuals Arrested in the PDS Rice Scam

The arrested individuals include:

  • Manasa Teja: Nani’s manager
  • Koti Reddy: Assistant Manager in the Civil Supplies Department
  • Borra Anjaneyulu: Rice miller
  • Mangarao: Lorry driver

The four suspects were presented before the Machilipatnam Special Mobile Judge, who remanded them to judicial custody for 12 days. They are now in Machilipatnam Sub-Jail.

Financial Transactions and Evidence Against Nani

The police have gathered crucial evidence against Perni Nani after questioning the arrested individuals. Allegations of financial transactions between the accused are under investigation, including payments made via PhonePay and other online methods. This evidence adds to the complexity of the case.

What’s Next for Perni Nani?

While Jayasudha has secured anticipatory bail, Perni Nani could still face arrest as the investigation continues. The case has drawn significant public attention, with many questioning the actions of the accused and the political implications for the ruling YSR Congress Party.

The investigation ongoing, and further updates expected soon.
