Did Arvind Kejriwal Really Spend 1 Lakh a Day on His Bungalow?

BJP Alleges Lavish Spending by Kejriwal on Government Bungalow

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva has stirred controversy by releasing RTI documents that claim former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spent a whopping ₹29.56 crore on the maintenance of his official residence in Civil Lines from 2015 to 2022. The most striking figure from the report: 1L per day for his bungalow was allegedly spent on routine upkeep and repairs.

Breakdown of the Alleged Expenses

According to the RTI documents shared by Sachdeva, the funds were utilized under the guise of maintenance, including:

  • Civil repairs
  • Electrical maintenance
  • Sewage work
  • Structural modifications

The annual average of ₹3.69 crore, Sachdeva noted, is comparable to the cost of building an entirely new bungalow in some parts of Delhi. He accused Kejriwal of misusing public funds for personal comfort or potentially engaging in corrupt practices under the cover of administrative needs.

Demand for Explanation on His Bungalow and Transparency

Virendra Sachdeva demanded that Kejriwal provide a public explanation, especially after his defeat in the recent Delhi elections. Which he says further eroded trust in the Aam Aadmi Party. He emphasized that such extravagant use of taxpayer money raises questions about financial transparency within the former CM’s office.

“This isn’t just about maintenance. It’s about how funds meant for Delhi’s development were funneled into luxury,” said Sachdeva during a media briefing.

Sisodia and the Liquor Scam Connection

The BJP leader didn’t stop at the bungalow controversy. He also took a jab at Manish Sisodia, former deputy CM and AAP leader, who is currently under CBI investigation for alleged irregularities in Delhi’s liquor policy. Sachdeva suggested that both issues—Kejriwal’s bungalow expenses and Sisodia’s probe—point toward a broader pattern of financial mismanagement and possible corruption in the AAP government.

A Call for Deeper Investigation

Sachdeva concluded by urging central agencies and the judiciary to investigate this expenditure thoroughly. He argued that the public deserves to know whether such excessive spending on a political leader’s residence justified or fraudulent.

As of now, Arvind Kejriwal has not responded publicly to the allegations.
