DCM Pawan Kalyan Urges Tribals to Abandon Ganja Cultivation
Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Advocates for a Ganja Cultivation-free Parvatipuram Manyam
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan urged the tribals of Parvatipuram Manyam district to discontinue the commercial cultivation of ganja. Addressing a tribal gathering in the agency area, he emphasized the need to address ganja cultivation as a pressing social issue.
A Plea for Change of Ganja Cultivation
“I respect tribal traditions immensely,” Pawan Kalyan said, “but ganja cultivation has become a menace that tarnishes Andhra Pradesh’s reputation as a hub for ganja exports.” While ganja leaves and toddy have traditional uses in village festivals, he stressed that commercial cultivation is leading to adverse consequences.
The Deputy CM highlighted the harmful impact of ganja, citing an incident where students in Kadapa district, under the influence of the substance, allegedly killed a teacher. Additionally, he raised concerns about chocolates laced with ganja being distributed to children, further endangering young lives.
Promoting Alternatives for Income Generation
To help tribals move away from cultivation, Pawan Kalyan suggested alternative livelihoods. He urged the villagers to embrace tourism by beautifying their homes and offering accommodations to visitors. This, he explained, could provide a sustainable and respectable source of income.
He also encouraged the cultivation of herbal plants, which could generate significant revenue. By adopting these alternatives, the tribals could achieve financial stability without resorting to harmful practices.
A Call to Youth and the Government’s Role
The Deputy CM made an earnest appeal to the youth to avoid ganja peddling. Acknowledging that while it might offer short-term gains, it has long-term detrimental effects. He reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting the community, assuring them of comprehensive development programs regardless of political affiliations.
A Commitment to Welfare
Pawan Kalyan reaffirmed his dedication to serving marginalized communities. Spending time with the tribals, he sought to understand their grievances and work towards viable solutions. He assured them that the government would implement corrective measures to eliminate the large-scale cultivation of ganja and promote sustainable development.
This initiative reflects the Deputy CM’s vision of transforming Parvatipuram Manyam into a progressive, ganja-free region, ensuring the welfare and growth of its people
