Controversy Surrounds Tiger Cub Named “Jagan” at TTD Zoo
Outrage Over Naming Tiger Cub After Jagan at TTD Zoo
Recently, many controversies have emerged about the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board. The NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has exposed several issues, including mismanagement. Among these is a peculiar incident involving the naming of a newborn tiger cub at the TTD Zoo. The cub was named “Jagan” after the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, sparking criticism.
Controversial Decision
This incident took place during Jagan’s tenure as Chief Minister. When Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, the Forest and Wildlife Minister, visited the zoo, he named the tiger cub “Jagan.” He also named two other cubs, “Vasu” and “Siddhan,” after himself and his grandson. This decision has now resurfaced, drawing criticism from the public.
Respecting TTD Zoo Sanctity?
The zoo is managed by TTD and holds religious importance due to its connection with the Tirumala shrine. Many believe that animals in the zoo should be named after Lord Venkateswara, who is also known by names like Govinda, Narayana, and Srinivasa. However, the decision to name the tiger cub “Jagan” has upset many devotees. They feel that this shows a lack of respect for the temple’s religious traditions.
Social Media Backlash
Since this story resurfaced, social media has been flooded with reactions. One user commented, “Naming the tiger cub after Jagan shows a clear disregard for the sanctity of TTD.” Others agreed, criticizing YCP leaders for using the zoo to promote political figures instead of honoring the religious heritage of Tirumala.
Symbolic of a Larger Problem
This controversy reflects a broader concern about how the YSR Congress Party has managed TTD. Many see it as another example of the YCP leadership’s failure to respect the religious and cultural values of the Tirumala shrine. With the ongoing scrutiny of TTD by the NDA government, the tiger cub naming incident is adding to the list of grievances.
