Health Minister Criticizes Jagan’s Tenure
Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav blamed former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for poor medical services. Yadav said Jagan promised to build 17 medical colleges. However, only 25% of the work was finished, and payments for 16% of the funds were made. Even Jagan’s own Pulivendula constituency didn’t get a college.
The shortage of staff was also a problem. There was a 48% shortage of teaching staff and 37% shortage of non-teaching staff when Jagan left office.
NDA Government Taking Action
Yadav defended the NDA government, saying they are working to fix the issues. He noted that four medical colleges won’t admit students this year because construction is still going on.
More Funds for AYUSH Development
Yadav also met the Union AYUSH Minister in July 2024 to discuss past neglect. The Centre has now provided more funds to improve AYUSH services. This includes better medicine supply, completing hospital construction, and fixing AYUSH dispensaries.
The funds will also strengthen 126 AYUSHMAN centres. These funds will be directed towards improving the supply of medicines, completing the construction of abandoned 50-bedded hospitals, and rebuilding AYUSH dispensaries in need of repair. Further funds will support government AYUSH colleges and the expansion of 126 AYUSHMAN medical centres.
New Ayurveda College in Dharmavaram
A new Ayurveda College and a 100-bedded hospital will be built in Dharmavaram. The Centre has approved Rs 20 crore for this and other projects across Andhra Pradesh.
Conclusion
With more funding, Andhra Pradesh’s healthcare system is set to improve. The NDA government is working to fix past issues and provide better medical facilities, especially in rural areas.
