BRS Leader Errolla Srinivas Arrested for Allegedly Obstructing Jubilee Hills Inspector
Hyderabad: Errolla Srinivas, former chairman of the State SC and ST Commission and prominent BRS leader, was arrested early Thursday at his residence in West Marredpally. The arrest follows allegations that he obstructed the Jubilee Hills inspector from performing his duties last month.
Earlier, BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy was also arrested and later released on bail for similar charges.
Police Action Under Scrutiny
According to BRS sources, the police arrived at Srinivas’s residence around 5 am to arrest him. However, the BRS party claims that the police did not present a warrant or notice, which they argue violates legal procedures.
Following the arrest, BRS leaders and party legal team members gathered at the scene. They demanded that the police produce an arrest warrant. Tensions quickly escalated into a heated argument between BRS supporters and the police, with the latter trying to enter the apartment. Despite the protests, the police successfully arrested Srinivas and took him into custody.
Errolla Srinivas Response
Errolla Srinivas criticized his arrest, calling it a politically motivated attempt to suppress opposition voices. He accused the Congress government of using intimidation tactics to silence him and his family. Speaking to the media, Srinivas emphasized that this arrest would not deter him from questioning the government’s unfulfilled promises and failed policies.
Srinivas also questioned the need for such an early-morning arrest, arguing that the police could have acted differently without alarming his family.
BRS’s Strong Reaction
The BRS has condemned the arrest, calling it unlawful and politically driven. Party leaders have demanded justice for Srinivas and emphasized the need to hold the government accountable for its actions. They believe that such arrests are part of a broader strategy to suppress dissent.
The arrest has raised concerns about how law enforcement is being used in politically charged situations, with many within the BRS accusing the government of trying to stifle opposition through aggressive tactics.
