AP Surpasses Telangana in Export Growth: A Turnaround Story

Andhra Pradesh Breaks Past Telangana in Export Rankings

Andhra Pradesh has achieved a significant economic milestone. The state has officially surpassed its neighbor, Telangana, in export value, marking a key shift in the southern economic landscape.

According to recent government data, Andhra Pradesh recorded exports worth $18.6 billion between April 2024 and February 2025, placing it sixth nationwide. In contrast, Telangana’s exports stood at $17.3 billion, pushing it just below Andhra Pradesh in the rankings.

National Export Rankings: Where AP Stands

The updated list of top exporting states in India is as follows:

  • Gujarat – $106.2 billion
  • Maharashtra – $59.3 billion
  • Tamil Nadu – $46.5 billion
  • Karnataka – $27.1 billion
  • Uttar Pradesh – $19.7 billion
  • Andhra Pradesh – $18.6 billion
  • Telangana – $17.3 billion

A Remarkable Comeback Amidst Financial Struggles

This achievement is particularly noteworthy given Andhra Pradesh’s history of financial struggle post-bifurcation. The state lost its capital Hyderabad — along with crucial IT infrastructure and institutional headquarters — to Telangana.

Despite lacking these major assets, Andhra Pradesh has managed to bounce back. The bifurcation left AP with limited resources, but the recent focus on trade, governance, and infrastructure is paying off.

Leadership Revival: CM Naidu’s Strategic Push

Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh has seen a renewed focus on development and economic revival. The 2024 election mandate, which brought the TDP-Jana Sena alliance back to power, was seen as a clear public endorsement of development-centric governance and the vision for Amaravati as the sole capital.

Naidu, known for his tech-savvy governance, has shifted gears quickly. The administration is actively working to attract investments, improve industrial output, and expand export capabilities.

Consistent Efforts Fueling Progress

While Andhra Pradesh hasn’t yet moved into a budget surplus, the signs of revival are clear. The export boost is a direct result of the determined push by the TDP and Jana Sena leaders to bring prosperity and stability back to the state.

This growth in exports signals not just a number on a report but a resilient spirit—a reflection of a state regaining its economic foothold through visionary leadership and policy-driven progress.
