Andhra Pradesh Strives to Become a Solar Power Hub
CM Naidu’s Vision for Solar Power Revolution
In a bold step towards sustainability, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unveiled ambitious plans to establish the state as a solar power generation hub. He directed officials to ensure that every household and office transitions to solar energy, leveraging the state’s favorable weather conditions for maximum efficiency.
Rooftop Solar Power for Every Home
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of solar energy in reducing dependency on conventional power sources. He encouraged the installation of rooftop solar systems across the state, offering incentives to motivate public participation.
“Educating people about the advantages of solar power is key,” Naidu said. He proposed a groundbreaking initiative where residents who install solar systems could receive free electricity and earn additional income by selling surplus energy back to the grid.
Promoting Central Solar Schemes
To accelerate solar adoption, Naidu stressed the need to raise awareness about central government schemes such as PM-Surya Ghar and PM-KUSUM. These programs aim to provide financial support and subsidies to households and farmers adopting solar power systems.
Officials reported that Andhra Pradesh has set an ambitious target of implementing the PM-Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana scheme in 30 lakh households. The scheme offers subsidies of up to ₹78,000 for a 3-kilowatt solar system, reducing the overall cost from ₹1.45 lakh to make solar power more affordable.
Progress in Solarisation Initiatives
The Surya Ghar scheme has already received over 70,000 applications, with solar panels installed on 4,961 rooftops. The Kuppam constituency serves as a model for solar adoption, with 50,312 households agreeing to transition to solar energy. These figures indicate growing public interest and significant progress in Andhra Pradesh’s solar journey.
The Road Ahead
The Chief Minister’s directive includes:
- Fast-tracking rooftop solar installations.
- Educating citizens on solar benefits and earning potential.
- Collaborating with the central government for increased subsidies and support.
Naidu envisions Andhra Pradesh as a pioneer in renewable energy, setting a benchmark for other states. With strong public participation and efficient implementation, the state aims to achieve its goal of becoming a solar power hub in the near future.
Conclusion
Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to solar energy marks a transformative shift towards renewable resources. By harnessing its abundant sunshine and providing incentives, the state is well on its way to becoming a leader in solar power generation.
