Amaravati Farmers Receive Major Boost from AP Government
Government Boost for Amaravati Farmers
In a significant move, the Andhra Pradesh government has extended financial support to the farmers of Amaravati who generously donated their land during the 2014-15 capital development initiative. These farmers participated in the land pooling scheme aimed at constructing the new capital of the state. With a new financial package, the government continues to fulfill its commitment to these farmers, ensuring they are duly compensated.
Funds Released to Farmers in Amaravati
The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has taken a proactive step by releasing funds directly into the accounts of the farmers who donated their land for capital development. This initiative demonstrates the government’s continued recognition of the sacrifices made by over 28,000 farmers, who pooled in approximately 30,000 acres of land for the development of Amaravati.
Moreover, the AP government has extended the annual rent payments for another five years for these farmers. It reflects the government’s farmer-friendly approach in compensating for the agricultural land provided for state infrastructure development.
Continued Land Acquisition for Amaravati
While the capital city development is still underway, the CRDA recently acquired an additional 7.2 acres of land from Penumaka farmers. However, the state still requires around 3,000 acres to complete the ambitious project of Amaravati. By working closely with farmers, the government hopes to fulfill the land requirements without causing disruptions to agricultural livelihoods.
Farmer-Friendly Policies
Ponguru Narayana, the AP Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies that support farmers. He emphasized that the state government has provided farmers with the flexibility to choose their plots of land wherever government land is available. This flexibility is a major benefit, as it empowers farmers to have more control over the compensation they receive.
Looking Ahead
The Amaravati farmers have played a crucial role in the state’s development, and the AP government continues to ensure they are fairly compensated for their contributions. By extending rent payments and acquiring more land with transparency, the government is setting an example of sustainable development.
