After HYDRA, BRS Plans COBRA Countermeasure in Telangana
🔍 HYDRA’s Crackdown Sparks Political Uproar
In Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad, the word “HYDRA” has become synonymous with fear and controversy. Formed by the current Congress government under CM Revanth Reddy, HYDRA is a special task force created to protect lakes, ponds, and nalas across the city. Since its inception, the task force has demolished several structures—some belonging to the underprivileged, and a few reportedly owned by influential individuals. BRS leader Karthik Reddy announces “COBRA” to counter Congress-led
Despite its stated purpose, HYDRA’s aggressive operations have been met with criticism from opposition parties, including the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), BJP, and others.
🐍 BRS Introduces COBRA as a Political Retaliation
On Sunday, BRS leader Karthik Reddy, son of former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy, made headlines by proposing a counterforce named COBRA—a direct response to HYDRA. His comments came during a public meeting at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, attended by several political newcomers and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR).
Karthik accused HYDRA of functioning selectively, targeting properties belonging to the poor and opposition leaders, while allegedly ignoring illegal constructions by Congress MLAs and affiliates. He claimed that HYDRA misused to facilitate land grabs under the guise of lake and land protection.
🏠 Accusations of Biased Enforcement
Citing a recent case in Mailardevpally, Karthik highlighted how homes of underprivileged residents razed for road expansion, while a nearby illegal structure owned by a Congress leader remained untouched. He used this as an example to allege biased enforcement and political vendetta.
He further claimed that BRS has detailed data on public land encroachments by Congress leaders during their tenure and vowed to expose these findings if BRS returns to power.
🔄 COBRA vs HYDRA: Political Tug of War Intensifies
Karthik emphasized that COBRA will serve to reclaim government lands from illegal occupiers, especially those associated with the ruling party. He positioned COBRA as a people-first initiative that would reverse HYDRA’s alleged injustices and restore public confidence.
Although his tone remained measured, his remarks were bold and direct, hinting at BRS’s aggressive comeback strategy for the next state elections.
🗳️ What’s Next in Telangana Politics?
With elections approaching, HYDRA vs COBRA could become a symbolic battle between Congress and BRS, reflecting larger narratives around governance, justice, and public trust.
Karthik’s announcement, made alongside KTR, signals that BRS is preparing for a politically charged campaign season, with a renewed focus on land, equity, and administrative transparency.
