6 Months of NDA in AP: Achievements and Challenges Ahead

6 Months of NDA in AP: Progress and Prospects

The NDA in AP, led by Chandrababu Naidu of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan of the Jana Sena Party, took charge of Andhra Pradesh six months ago after a decisive victory in the 2024 general assembly elections. With high expectations and significant challenges awaiting, the government has delivered on several promises, but there are areas that still require focus.

Here’s an overview of what the NDA has achieved in six months and the hurdles that lie ahead.

Key Achievements

1. Enhanced Social Security Pensions

On his first day in office, Chandrababu Naidu fulfilled a major election promise by increasing the monthly social security pension from ₹3,000 to ₹4,000. Unlike the previous government, which took years to implement similar changes, Naidu’s swift action included clearing arrears, benefiting lakhs of beneficiaries.

2. Reviving Amaravati

After years of stagnation, the NDA government initiated steps to restore Amaravati’s development. With ₹15,000 crores in central funding, the city is poised for revival, signaling a return to its ambitious plans as a world-class capital.

3. Focus on Vizag as a Software Hub

Vizag, which had limited development under the previous regime, is now being transformed into a tech hub. Tech giants like TCS and Google have announced their upcoming operations in the city. Additionally, the government successfully prevented the privatization of the Vizag Steel Plant, safeguarding employees’ interests.

4. Anna Canteens Resumed

Anna Canteens, offering affordable meals to the underprivileged, relaunched within days of the NDA taking office. Over 200 canteens are operational statewide, benefiting thousands daily.

5. Social Media Regulation

In response to concerns about abusive content online, the government cracked down on hate speech and derogatory campaigns on social media. This move followed Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan’s appeal and has been widely lauded.

6. Canal Cleaning Initiatives

The government has undertaken statewide canal cleaning projects, ensuring access to clean drinking water for the public.

Areas for Improvement

1. Action on Corruption Cases

While several scams from the previous government have been exposed, including illegal mining, liquor irregularities, and land encroachments, there has been no significant action against the offenders. Public trust depends on swift justice in these matters.

2. Road Development

The state’s neglected roads remain a pressing issue. The NDA government has promised to make Andhra Pradesh pothole-free by Sankranthi, but significant progress is needed to meet this target.

3. Sand Policy Overhaul

Despite the change in leadership, transparency in the sand supply system remains elusive. Local corruption and middlemen continue to plague the sector, drawing criticism from citizens and opposition alike.

4. Implementation of the Super Six Schemes

Key election promises under the “Super Six” agenda—like 20 lakh new jobs, Amma Vadi, free bus travel for women, and financial aid for unemployed youth—are yet to be implemented. Delays in these schemes have given opposition parties ammunition to criticize the ruling coalition.

NDA in AP: Challenges Ahead

As the government moves forward, several critical projects, including the Polavaram irrigation project, Bhogapuram Airport, and Amaravati’s full development, require sustained focus. The NDA also faces the challenge of balancing welfare schemes with economic development while attracting investments and creating wealth for the state.

Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership has brought hope for transformation, but the road ahead demands relentless effort and accountability to meet the aspirations of Andhra Pradesh’s people.
