45,000 Farm Loan Complaints in 48 Hours to BRS
Introduction
In just 48 hours, the BRS grievance cell at Telangana Bhavan received over 45,000 complaints from farmers. These complaints focus on the farm loan waiver implemented by the State government.
High Volume of Complaints about Farm Loan
Former MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy said the grievance cell was receiving nearly 900 calls every hour. This high volume of complaints shows the widespread issues farmers face with the loan waiver.
Farm Loan Waiver Scheme
During a press meet at Telangana Bhavan, Sudharshan Reddy emphasized that the BRS had always insisted the crop loan waiver should genuinely benefit farmers. However, the sheer number of complaints indicates many farmers did not have their loans waived. In 48 hours alone, the party headquarters received about 3,562 phone calls and 42,984 WhatsApp messages. This averages to 875 complaints per hour.
Issues Faced by Farmers on Farm Loan
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao stated that a ration card was not required to avail the crop loan waiver. However, at the village level, complaints show only farmers with ration cards benefited. Many farmers faced issues like minor errors in Aadhaar cards, incorrect land records, and even visa holdings. These problems prevented them from receiving the loan waiver.
BRS Criticism
Sudharshan Reddy accused Revanth Reddy of offering a superficial loan waiver. He claimed the waiver failed to provide real benefits to farmers. Reddy questioned the need for government regulations that differ from banking standards. He called for field-level meetings with farmers to review the loan waiver process.
Cabinet Sub-Committee Review
Sudharshan Reddy also criticized the Cabinet sub-committee for limiting its review of the Rythu Bharosa scheme to mere inspections. He noted that this left half of the farmers without loan waivers.
Future Actions
The BRS vowed to continue fighting for farmers who were left out of the loan waiver. Sudharshan Reddy announced plans to file a complaint with investigating agencies regarding the civil supplies scam.
