Keerthy Suresh Reveals Why She Rejected Mahanati Initially
Keerthy Suresh, one of the most celebrated actresses in Indian cinema, has garnered immense popularity nationwide. Known for her impeccable performances, she became a household name with the biographical film Mahanati. However, in a surprising revelation, Keerthy shared that she initially declined the role that eventually became a turning point in her career.
The Reason Behind the Initial Refusal
During a recent interview, Keerthy Suresh admitted that she turned down the offer to portray legendary actress Savitri after an extensive four-hour narration.
She shared,
“When Nagi offered me the narration, I refused to do the project. The producers were thrilled about my involvement, but I was scared. I couldn’t help but think, ‘What if I ruin it? What if people don’t like it?’ It was daunting to imagine myself in the shoes of a legend like Savitri amma.”
Keerthy also revealed how the producers, Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt, were shocked by her decision. They couldn’t understand why she would decline such a prestigious role.
Overcoming Doubts and Taking the Leap
Keerthy explained that her doubts stemmed from the film’s requirement to depict the personal aspects of Savitri’s life. She feared backlash from fans and worried about misinterpretations.
She added,
“I said, ‘We have to show her personal side. What if fans don’t like it?’ But Nagi and the team were confident. What ultimately convinced me was Nagi’s faith in me. His trust in my abilities exceeded my own. That trust gave me the courage to take on the role.”
Challenges in Her Career Before Mahanati
Keerthy also opened up about the challenges she faced in the industry before Mahanati. Following a failed debut in Tamil cinema, she was labeled as unlucky by some producers. Additionally, she had to combat baseless rumors about alleged relationships with her co-stars.
Despite these challenges, Keerthy chose a path that defied expectations, focusing on roles that highlighted her talent and versatility. Her portrayal of Savitri in Mahanati not only silenced critics but also earned her national acclaim.
A Career-Defining Role
Keerthy Suresh’s decision to eventually accept the role in Mahanati turned out to be a game-changer. The film showcased her acting prowess and cemented her place as one of the finest performers in the industry. It also paved the way for her to explore opportunities across different languages, including her recent Bollywood debut in Baby John.
Keerthy’s journey is an inspiring reminder of how overcoming self-doubt and taking calculated risks can lead to extraordinary achievements.
