Actor Siddharth, known for his candid and controversial opinions, recently shared his perspective on rejecting mainstream film roles Rejecting Commercial Roles . Speaking at the Hyderabad Literary Festival, Siddharth discussed his involvement in the film Chittha, which addresses sensitive issues like child-rape and child safety.
When asked about his thought process behind choosing such a film, Vidya Rao, a renowned singer, inquired about Siddharth’s decision to take on a project like Chittha. Siddharth responded by saying that while he could have taken on more commercially viable roles, he opted for this film because of its important message about child safety. He emphasized that the film’s hopeful ending, rather than one focused on revenge or justice, would not have been as profitable but was far more meaningful.
Siddharth’s Stance on Toxic Masculinity in Cinema
During the conversation, Siddharth also touched on the issue of toxic masculinity in Indian cinema. He recalled offered scripts in which his character would engage in degrading actions like slapping women, performing item songs, or making inappropriate comments. Siddharth rejected such roles, even though he acknowledged that accepting them could have made him a much bigger star. He said, “I instinctively did what I liked,” underlining that personal satisfaction and integrity were more important to him than fame or fortune.
The Satisfaction Siddharth Finds Beyond Stardom of Commercial Roles
Siddharth further explained that the satisfaction he gains from his choices cannot be quantified in monetary terms. For him, it’s about doing work that aligns with his values and beliefs. Despite not chasing the typical Bollywood stardom, Siddharth remains content with his decisions and the projects he chooses.
